Are Comment Backlinks Worth The Time?

Comment backlinks are backlinks usually created on blogs, but of course they can be created on any site that allows comments. One would have to search the Internet for their topic, find a blog with relevant content to their site and then write a comment and place a link back to their website.

Does this really work?
This type of backlink building does work, if you are willing to spend the time to find quality blogs with relevant content, plus put the extra effort into writing a decent comment so it will get approved. There are some blogs that will allow any comment, but most will have to be approved. When writing a comment just think to yourself, if this was my blog would I approve this.

How do you get a comment approved?
When you write the comment, just make sure it has something to do with the blog post. If the blog post is about vitamins, then write something about taking or buying vitamins. If you own a vitamin company, instead of saying, check out our vitamin website… say something like, does it really matter which vitamin company I use? How does this company compare to GNC?
If you mention another company and ask advice, you have a better chance than just placing a link to your own website. One thing to keep in mind is the amount of people that actually read the comment is going to be slim to none (for most blogs), so it’s more important to get the backlink published than to worry about promoting your own company.
I do not recommend writing a comment that just says, “great blog – go to my site”. The extra effort should get your comment approved and your backlink indexed in the search engines.

Does the page rank of the blog matter?
Yes, it does to an extent. One thing to keep in mind in any SEO process is the fact that you have to make sure your SEO marketing is done in a way that looks natural. If you only get backlinks from page rank 5+ blogs, does that seem natural? Not really. A couple backlinks here and there wont matter, but if you are building hundreds of backlinks this way, you should create some on lower page rank blogs as well.

What is NoFollow?
A NoFollow tag means that you will not get credit for a backlink on that page. You do want to target blogs that have a DoFollow tag so you do get credit. The problem that could arise, as mentioned above, is it natural to only have backlinks from DoFollow blogs? You are in the same boat here, it is wise to spread out the backlink building process to all types of sites.

Will Google really penalize me?
Yes, Google will drop the hammer once they feel you are spamming or doing any type of SEO that doesn’t fit their algorithm. What does this mean exactly? Here is an example. If you want to build backlinks via blog comments (or any type of process) Google has an algorithm in place that looks for spam. So if your website has backlinks from known link farms or if your website has a lot of backlinks that were created in a very short amount of time (this is done with automated software), they will automatically penalize you. 99% of the time there is nothing you can do about it.

What happens if I get penalized?
There are multiple ways to get pushed around by Google. If you go outside their white lines just a little bit, you may lose your search engine rankings for a day or so. If you push the envelope a little more, they might push down your rankings from maybe a page 1 to page 10. If you really piss them off, then your website can disappear off of Google. If this happens, you will probably never recover.
Bottom line is, most people do not know how far you can push the envelope, nor do they even know there is an envelope to push. There are many companies, consultants, off-shore firms that will contact you and say they will build tons of backlinks for you and your site will shoot to the top of the search engines.
You have to be very careful of this because most companies do not perform the SEO marketing correctly. You might even get great results in the first 30 days and be jumping up with joy. The problem is, if your SEO is built wrong, it could take 6 months for Google to realize and penalize you then. It doesn’t normally happen right away.

Happy Backlink Building!!!

The Importance Of Backlinks

One of the most important aspects of online marketing commonly unclear to new users are backlinks. If you are not sure what a backlink is, here is a short explanation that should make sense to you, even if you have no idea about Internet marketing terms:

A backlink is a hyperlink pointed to your website from another site, or it can also be a link you give yourself from any pages within your site. Backlinks are the bread& butter of online marketing for die-hard webmasters, and the key to ranking high in the search engines.

Why are backlinks important?

The answer is simple. Backlinks are important because they are seen as a type of credit given to you from other webmasters. Search engines give you more status for quality backlinks, especially if they are from other sites within your niche. The more status a site has, the higher it will rank (this is especially true in competitive niches).
If for example your site is geared for travelers, a backlink from a cruise site will give you great “bonus” points in the eyes of Google – especially if that site has a strong PR.
When you receive a link from another site administrator it is like a token of appreciation that they appreciate your content. The more of these links you get, the higher your website will rank. If those links contain proper anchor text, featuring the keyword(s) you want to rank for it is even better for you.

Can you rank a site without many backlinks?

You bet you can! However, if you manage to rank a site with only a few backlinks it usually is because:
  • there isn’t much competition to start with, or
  • the daily search terms for the keyword you rank for is very poor
So while it might feel great to see your site pop up on the first spot in Google, it means nothing for your bottom line if no one is looking for the information in the first place (no/low searches).

Is it possible to compete with established authority sites?

Yes and no. Ultimately, given enough backlinks AND quality content you can beat just about any ranking site in the search engines with a few exceptions. But to do so takes time and patience. Plus you need to know a thing or two about SEO and how to “tweak” your content with white hat optimization methods.
Most people experience problems when they try to game the search engines. They go off in search of work-today, get rich quick solutions and bomb their site with backlinks from dodgy places and then wonder when Google slaps them at the next PR update (or sooner).
All the auto-publishing features for blogs and websites will eventually come to haunt you because logically they can simply not function long-term. Neither can black hat marketing methods or any other weird and not-so-wonderful marketing practices. More than ever quality content is key. Google has been doing some heavy weeding out in recent months and I suspect they will continue to do so in order to get rid of all those crappy autoblogs you see pop up everywhere you look.

Patience is key

Whether you like it or not, Google will favor webmasters who practice patience. These are the marketers who publish top quality content and build links “naturally” over time. Since it is hardly possible to build links naturally (meaning, you wait for others to link to you at will), most webmasters do some form of link building.
This is fine, as long as you build links bit by bit and not buy 10,000 links today (for a brand new blog) and then nothing for the next year. Google’s algorithm is sure to pick up on that and your site will be branded negatively by bots you don’t even know exist.

What about costs?

If you are actively learning about online marketing you would have already found a lot of services that offer backlink promotion for your site. Many of them come at a healthy cost. Here is the thing, you will always pay a price:
  • You could pay the price of being lazy
  • You could pay the price of having no discpline
  • You could pay the price of not knowing
  • Or you could end up paying the price of stupidity by choosing the wrong provider
There are two types of marketers online; the first group is the person with no money, but with a resonable amount of time at their disposal; the second group is the established marketer with plenty of money but little time.
Type one would be best advised to do most of the link building themselves to save money, gain knowledge and increase their website’s ranking over time, whereas type two is probably best served by hiring a capable SEO professional to do the link building for them.
You will know what’s best for you, based on your current situation. However you look at link building, you really ought to make it one of your regular activities if you want to see results from your online marketing efforts.

There are many advantages to be gained from good relationship with other bloggers.
Here are some great ways to build relationships with other bloggers:

1. Commenting on Other Blogs

This seems like a basic idea, but it is a good place to start and let the other blogger know about you. If you want this point to be really effective then it is important that your comments add value to the post and are not simple comments like – “Nice Post” etc.

2. Guest Posts

This is another great way to build relationships with other bloggers. Providing great content to other bloggers is a sure-shot way to get them to notice you. Most blogs related to blogging, technology niche allow you to guest post. Another important point is the timing of your guest posts. Suppose if your guest post comes in at a time the blogger is sick or on a vacation then it will mean much more to him and you can create lasting relationships.

You might get really worried when you link out to other blogs competing with you, but don’t think that way. Be open and break free of all insecurities – giving link love to other bloggers is a great way to build relationships. 3 Secrets To Promote Your Blog Through Forums

Forums are a great place where you can build a robust network of loyal community around you and your blog. If you are interested in what the forum is about, then you will surely find it fun. Recently, there has been an even bigger rage surrounding high page rank forums due to backlinks, which they can give bloggers – so here in this post I have given three forum secrets that will help you to promote your blog:

1. Don’t Try To Be At All Places At Once

If you try to be active at all places at one, then you will not optimize any of the forums, which you are using. It is only practical that you cannot be active in too many forums at one time. So it is my advice that you go through a list of High Page Rank forums and then focus your attention on two or three of these forums. Then after a period of three months or so you can switch to another group of high Page Rank forums. This is how you should ideally proceed towards building backlinks from high page rank forums.

2. Select A Forum Niche

Many bloggers make the mistake of trying to be involved in any high page rank forum, which they can find. This is a poor practice because you are essentially destroying a lot of potential readers to your blog (which will be on your interested niche). Also you can never give 100% to a forum where you are not at all interested in their threads and topics of discussion. So be really careful when you come to this point. Many bloggers regret having promoted their blog on the wrong niche forums.

3. Respect A Forum

If you plan to join a high Page Rank forum to only contribute junk so that you can get a backlink – you are affecting the image of yourself and your blog. Remember forums are also a great source of traffic. Understand what a forum is really for. If you can provide quality responses to other contributors they will also give respect to what you comment on the forum threads. Also, make full use of the forum – ask questions and doubts that have genuinely struck you and also help other who are in need of some kind of help. This is why I have mention in the previous point about the Forum niche selection.
Do you have any secret, which you use to promote your blog on forums?
